چکیده

INTRODUCTION Running, hopping and trotting animals can be modeled as spring-mass systems in which the mechanical behavior of the musculoskeletal system is represented as a leg spring. The stiffness of the leg spring is the primary determinant of the dynamics of running. Biomechanical studies have revealed that larger mammalian species have stiffer legs (Farley et al., 1993). Similarly, large adult humans have stiffer legs than small adult humans (Carruthers & Farley, 1998).

Correlation between lower body stiffness and agility in racket-sports athlete

Stiffness is an index for determination of elastic properties of body and its optimum range is different in various motion patterns. The Spring-mass model is used for calculating stiffness. In this method, the whole leg is modeled with a linear simple spring. The aim of this study is determination of lower body stiffness and evaluation of its correlation with agility, as dominant motion patt...

The Relationship Between Core Stability and Leg Stiffness in Male and Female Athletes

Purpose: Core stability and leg stiffness are two determinant mechanisms in athletic performance and risk injury. This study aimed to investigate the gender differences and relationship of these two factors in athletes. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, core stability and leg stiffness of 12 male and 12 female Iranian squash players at national level were examined utilizing McGill’...

ارتباط سفتی اندام تحتانی با متغیرهای منتخب بیومکانیکی در اجرای پرش‌های عمودی مردان فعال سالم

Objective: Stiffness is a characteristic of viscoelastic structures and is an effective factor in sports movement biomechanics, which is an important factor in motion production and neuromechanical control of human body. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between lower extremity stiffness and selected biomechanical variables during vertical jumps. Methods: 20 male physi...

Spring-like leg behaviour, musculoskeletal mechanics and control in maximum and submaximum height human hopping.

The purpose of this study was to understand how humans regulate their 'leg stiffness' in hopping, and to determine whether this regulation is intended to minimize energy expenditure. 'Leg stiffness' is the slope of the relationship between ground reaction force and displacement of the centre of mass (CM). Variations in leg stiffness were achieved in six subjects by having them hop at maximum an...
